Children, Young People and Families

Helping children make sense of their feelings helps them feel safer in the world.

If you are a parent or carer who is concerned about your child or young person’s emotional wellbeing, one-to-one therapy offers a safe, supportive, and confidential space to explore what may be contributing to their difficulties. Therapy is carefully adapted to your child or young person’s age, developmental stage, and individual needs, with the aim of supporting their emotional growth and wellbeing.

Therapy sessions focus on helping children and young people develop a greater understanding of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. This is achieved through age-appropriate therapeutic approaches, which may include discussion, creative activities, or structured therapeutic techniques. Where appropriate, parents and carers are involved in the therapeutic process to support understanding, strengthen communication, and encourage positive changes within the family system.

One-to-one therapy can be helpful for a range of concerns, including anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, stress, low self-esteem, family transitions, school-related concerns, bereavement, and experiences of loss or change. The purpose of therapy is not to label or “fix” a child or young person, but to provide them with the support and skills needed to feel understood, emotionally secure, and better able to manage their experiences.

Parents and carers are supported throughout the therapeutic process, with opportunities to reflect on concerns, ask questions, and gain guidance on how best to support their child or young person outside of sessions. Therapy is a collaborative process that recognises the vital role of family relationships in promoting emotional wellbeing and long-term resilience.
